Day 2
Good morning, hope you enjoyed another day of college basketball! Only 181 perfect brackets remain in the CBS pool (which contains millions of brackets), and there are none left in ours (that's been the case since Thurdsay, in fact). No legit buzzer beaters or anything quite yet, but games were generally better yesterday with several going down to the wire, particularly earlier in the day. The Baylor-Mississippi State and Vandy-St. Mary's games in particular were a lot of fun to watch.
Congrats to "Cougar, no not that kind," who sits atop the leaderboard after the first round, entitling her to the $100 bonus regardless of how she ultimately finishes. In other news, "Less Is More" proves that less may in fact be less, coming in dead last. Thank you for your donation to the cause! Here's what the top 10 looks like going into today's games:
We ALMOST had some significant upsets yesterday! 15 seeds Robert Morris and Bryant both put up valiant efforts and even held leads against their opponents, even if the final scores don't show it. Congrats to the 126 of you that correctly picked 12-seed Colordao State advancing over Memphis -- if they manage to knock off Maryland as well, 41 of you are going to see your brackets rocket up the board!
And here's an interesting fact -- with UNC losing yesterday and KU losing on Thursday, this is the first time EVER in the history of the 64+ game format that we don't see either of those teams in the Round of 32. Pretty amazing run for a couple of blue blood college basketball programs.
Amongst celeb brackets, comedian Bert Kreischer (below) is off to a great start, sitting in third place, followed by Tyrod Taylor at 24 and Bugs Bunny at 29 to round out the top 10% of entrants.
And Nickelback may be the band we all love to mock, but they are outperforming their usual mediocrity at the moment, coming in in 46th place and outperforming 5/6 of the field.
Our "Shouldn't You Be Better At This?" award goes (once again) to Charles Barkley, who for yet another year is turning in a turrible performance (213 at the moment) despite having actually been a successful college and pro basketball player, and being one of the primary analysts for the event. You'd think all of that exposure to the game of basketball would put one in a position to excel at this, but not so much, evidently...
Mixing politics and basketball is apparently not a great strategy, as both the Blue State and Red State brackets are getting trounced. The Red State bracket is doing the worst of all JFF brackets in fact, but I do expect that to change, as most of the powerhouse programs are indeed from red states. Regardless, neither approach has proven successful here, and even former President Obama, who has had some success in this pool before, is in the bottom third.
Finally, the Brothers Kelce are everywhere these days, so I've added their brackets to the mix as well. So far, Travis is beating Jason, but neither of them are crushing it, coming in at 132 and 245, respectively.
Anyway, that's all I've got for now! Next planned update will be after the Sunday games, but I may pop in with a quick one if anything really noteworthy happens today. Until then, enjoy the games!
